Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Places Books Have Made Me Want To Visit

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted over at The Broke and the Bookish! And this week the theme is….. Top Ten Places Books Have Made Me Want To Visit!

travel with books
I feel like I’ve travelled all over the world, throughout time and space and even to fantasy lands. Then I realise that actually I barely leave my room except to go to work. Books can take us anywhere.

There are a lot of places books have made me want to visit, some real, some fantasy. This is less of a top ten and more like a random Ten;

New York

— so many books are set here, most recently Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld and I’m just dying to go there. Plus they have some pretty spectacular bookshops, or so I’ve heard.

Middle Earth

–Lord of the Rings? Uh yes please. I want to walk the Shire and visit the Elves and Dwarves. I would even like a trip into Mordor. I think this would be my number one place to live if I could live in a fictional world, its so gorgeous!

Dauntless HQ

— Not sure about the set of the film, but Dauntless headquarters how I imagined it was like perrrrrfect. In fact the entire Chicago area, I loved the imagery I got reading those books. YAY. (Plus I just kinda wanna be cool and Dauntless.)

The Night Circus

— If you’ve read The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern then you’ll know why this is in my top ten. Guys, if you haven’t read it just trust me, best circus ever. The smells the food, the layout the fancy clock at the entrance. Not to mention all the magical acts and wow just wow. WHY ISN’T IT REAL?!

— Ok, so the book Inkheart is about a book (also called Inkheart) that characters travel out of (and to) and oh my would I just LOVE to go into the that book. It sounds so magical. Yes please.

— obviously. Hogwarts, Hogsmeade yes please yes please..

— I realise I only live like a couple of hours from London on the train but I’ve never really visited properly. I’ve been down a couple of time but never looked round much, get in get out. Its too busy and everyones trushing about too much. But so many books centre in London and I’d love to go around and see all the landmarks (and bookshops).

–yes this is because of TFIOS but don’t judge. (my feeling about that book are so jumbled up I can’t tell you my opinion on it) I’ve always liked the look of Amsterdam, just not the too dodgy parts.

City of Masks

— technically its like 16th century Venice. But I want to go and meet the characters of this book. I loved this book when I was younger (which actually wasn’t that long ago). Goodreads page here.

Wolf Brother

— this is a book by Michelle Paver, and they live in an ancent forest and they’re all so at one with nature. They live in their little Clans and respect the earth and animals and it’s just so great to read. Really would love to live there, without all the scary stuff going on!

So that’s my random Ten Places Books made me want to visit, what are yours? Would you visit any of my Ten? Which is your favourite? x x

  1. I’ve been to London and Amsterdam…both are worth the trip. If you ever come to New York, let me know. I don’t live nearby anymore, but I can occasionally get up there. I was there this last Saturday, walking in Central Park. It’s an amazing place.
