Stacking the Shelves (8) -I’m back and ooh look dragons

“Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!”

All my love to Tygna’s Reviews for keeping this going. All the love and pizza to you

Oh I do love this meme. It’s like a free pass to brag about all my books (all the book buying!) but to people who actually care (I hope) and I don’t feel so bad cause everyone’s doing the same thing!

I won’t stack up all the books I’ve received since I last did this post because it would be insanely long due to my super long hiatus (and my inability to exercise self control in waterstones) . I will just do some of the more recent / my favourites.

The first thing I need to mention is that I have been reading on my kindle! (Well the app on my phone). This is kind of a big deal as I’m very on the side of physical books in The Great Debate. But I can’t sneakily ready Robin Hobb at my desk at work with the physical copy (huuuuge beast of a book, not subtle) but with my phone buried amongst the paper on the deal (lots of paper) I can get away with reading lots. (Work, I’m sorry not sorry. Robin Hobb is fab).

So I bought and downloaded the liveship traders trilogy

Which is amazing! Because pirates and sea serpents and dragons and magic and oooooh.

Then I may have accidentally finished those and bought the Rain Wild Chronicles series. Because ahhhh more dragons.

And the cover lust is intense.

While Robin Hobb has been my fantasy fix for the beginning of 2016, in the winter of 2015 it was all about Brandon Sanderson.

Starting with th Mistborn series…

(Which I cannot even put into words how much I loved. So so brilliant.)

And then onto the Stormlight Archives series (still not finished come on Brandon!)

Which is just so amazing, even with drawings throughout that are just so beautiful.

And also Warbreaker and Elantris!

So as you’ve guessed I’m in love with Robin Hobb and Brandon Sanderson’s books. And I’m thoroughly into a fantasy phase right now.

Unfortunately I am pretty new to this genre, so any recommendations would be more than appreciated!

Have you read any of these? Who else do you think I’d enjoy? (There’s virtual cake for anyone who recommends me someone I end up loving as much as these).

Comment and let me know and feel free to leave a link back to your blog if you have one, I’m feeling abit disconnected! x x

This is my seventh stacking the shelves, hosted over at the wonderful Tynga’s Reviews! 🙂

So I did really really well all week not buying books and reading ones I already own (DIE TBR PILE DIE). But then I happened upon a book that was forgotten about in the middle of one of the many piles around my room.
This book was Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. Shadow and Bone is the first book in the legendary Grisha rilogy. Now all you bloggers and twitter peeps having been raving and review and just generally LOVING this series, and I thought I’d eventually get around to buying them, not realising the frst book has been sat on my shelf since like last year.
So I started it Tuesday and finished it Wednesday. Then whilst suffereing from a serious book-hangover I ran out of my house (in the RAIN I might add) and made my way straight to Waterstones where I bought the second two books.

oops…

but on the positive side (who am I kidding it’s already positive –MORE BOOKS) my copy of Siege and Storm was signed! Yayay!

I may have also accidentally bought Winterkill by Kate A. Boorman.. In my defense is was on offer and I’d read some glowing reviews…

Yay, so those are my books for the week! Have you read any of them? What did you think? And do share your StS post if you like! x x

This is my sixth Statcking the Shelves, hosted over at Tynga’s Reviews!

I tried really really hard not to buy anymore books (I promise I did!) but of course that didn’t work. Buying books is like therapy, some girls splash out on expensive handbags and shoes, I pop into Waterstones. So here’s the books I gave into this week 🙂

Bought.

Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld.

Darcy Patel has put college and everything else on hold to publish her teen novel, Afterworlds. Arriving in New York with no apartment or friends she wonders whether she’s made the right decision until she falls in with a crowd of other seasoned and fledgling writers who take her under their wings… Told in alternating chapters is Darcy’s novel, a suspenseful thriller about Lizzie, a teen who slips into the ‘Afterworld’ to survive a terrorist attack. But the Afterworld is a place between the living and the dead and as Lizzie drifts between our world and that of the Afterworld, she discovers that many unsolved – and terrifying – stories need to be reconciled. And when a new threat resurfaces, Lizzie learns her special gifts may not be enough to protect those she loves and cares about most.

Lies We Tell Ourselves by Robin Talley

It’s 1959. The battle for civil rights is raging. And it’s Sarah Dunbar’s first day of school, as one of the first black students at the previously all-white Jefferson High. No one wants Sarah there. Not the Governor. Not the teachers. And certainly not the students – especially Linda Hairston, daughter of the town’s most ardent segregationist. Sarah and Linda have every reason to despise each other. But as a school project forces them to spend time together, the less their differences seem to matter. And Sarah and Linda start to feel something they’ve never felt before. Something they’re both determined ignore. Because it’s one thing to be frightened by the world around you – and another thing altogether when you’re terrified of what you feel inside.

The Infinite Sea (The 5th Wave #2) by Rick Yancey

How do you rid the Earth of seven billion humans? Rid the humans of their humanity.
Surviving the first four waves was nearly impossible. Now Cassie Sullivan finds herself in a new world, a world in which the fundamental trust that binds us together is gone. As the 5th Wave rolls across the landscape, Cassie, Ben, and Ringer are forced to confront the Others’ ultimate goal: the extermination of the human race.
Cassie and her friends haven’t seen the depths to which the Others will sink, nor have the Others seen the heights to which humanity will rise, in the ultimate battle between life and death, hope and despair, love and hate.

~also I was in waterstones and they have this fab little ‘Blind Date With A Book’ stand, where the books are wrapped in brown paper with only a tiny bit of information on the front. Exciting right? So of course I picked one up. Mine said ‘first in a trilogy’, ‘compelling characters’ and ‘for fans of Sarah J. Maas (which of course I am) so yay!

That’s all for this weeks Sts, let me know your thoughts and feel free to share your StS link in the comments! x x

Stacking the Shelves is hosted over at Tynga’s Reviews!

Sooooooo, It’s been too long since I’ve posted one of these! Since my last post I’ve bought more books than I’d like to admit, been on many book-buying bans (with varying success) and realised that literally very flat surface I my house is covered with piles and piles of books.

So I won’t share all the books I’ve bought since my last post, (I don’t even want to think how many that is). So here’s just a few from the last couple of weeks.

Bought!

The 100 Day 21 (The 100 #2) by Kass Morgan, loving the TV series, enjoyed the first book so I thought, why not?

Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass #3) by Sarah J. Maas, Oh god I love this series, got my review copy through netgalley so of course bought this as soon as I saw it. Crown of Midnight might still be my favourite though.

Half Bad by Sally Green, Cover is lovely, saw it for a bargain and just couldn’t help myself, hoping it’s goooooood.

More Than This by Patrick Ness, I have loved everything I have read by this author so this was a must.

E-Books for Review

Imitation by Heather Hildenbrand, requested for the cover and the potentially promising synopsis, gave it 2.5 stars see my review here.

Rebel Wing by Tracy Banghart, not my usual kind of book but looks promising!

Branded by Ketner and Kalicicki, loved the cover and had some serious potential to be a kick ass dystopia, see my review here!

Okay, so I may have gotten more than that but you’d be here all day if I posted the full list! Share your StS posts with me and let me know your thoughts on any of the books on mine! x x

Then there is Fahrenheit 451 and Nineteen eighty four by George Orwell. And last but by no means least is Cinder, which I’ve been DYING to read and a signed copy of The Naturals that I won!

Blinded by the Light by Joe Kipling I received for review! (I absolutely LOVED it btw, and here’s my review if you’re interested)

20140131-234747.jpg
These I received from Quick Reads!! They even sent me a bar of chocolate! How lovely!

That’s it for now! Comment and let me know if you’ve read any of these and I want to know what new books you’ve got!
